Bryan Boyce (MNLEND 2020-21) is the executive director of L’Arche Twin Cities and Cow Tipping Press. Both organizations incorporate the talents of people with and without disabilities. “Everyone is hungry for connection on a deep and authentic level," he said. "There are better, more empowering ways for people to decide who they live with and where they live and how they live.”

MPR News Reports on Rally for Disability Funding at State Capitol

Disability rights advocates rallied at the Minnesota Capitol on May 3 to protest cuts to programs and services, which could affect ICI. Demonstrators said President Trump's proposals would jeopardize housing, health care, and education for people with disabilities.

“This is not a political matter. It’s a matter of priorities,” said State Sen. Jim Abler (Republican), one of several lawmakers committed to bipartisanship around funding disability services and programs.

What I've Learned as an Employer

Erica Andres uses her own life experience as someone with disabilities to train case managers and others in self-direction. When she trains her support staff, she stresses friendship and boundaries. “I remind people that this is my home, and I need their assistance to live my life, not theirs. I say I’ll make every accommodation I can, and we can work together as a team, but it’s still my life.”
